Sonar Buenos Aires 2017 - Avant-Garde Audiovisual Shows

Sónar Buenos Aires 2017, the international festival of advanced music and the Congress of creativity and technology was celebrated on Sunday 26 of November at Tecnópolis. It was the third time of Sónar in Argentina and artists like Sigur Rós, Pantha Du Prince, Nosaj Thing and Gilles Peterson led the fest.

Sónar characterized for sharing tastes that go beyond electronic music, including the avant-garde, creativity, and technology. That´s why the organizers focus on bringing artists that are distinguished for their audiovisual shows. Every edition they also set up a congress in which they gather technologic, creative innovations to show the audience new ideas and the last inventions of music creation.

For reasons unrelated to the organization Trentemoller and Tokimonsta were not part of the line up of this edition as it was scheduled. Those bad news upset some part of the audience, it was a pity to miss their shows.

Stages and organization

The festival had three closed stages, Sónar Complex, Lab and Club. Each stage counted with an excellent quality of sound, wide screens to enjoy the audiovisual acts and spacious fields for the audience. The main stage was Sónar Club and this one also had grandstand at the back and both sides of the field to watch the artists.

The festival took place at Tecnopolis, a spacious and beautiful field that was inaugurated in 2011, and have an immense and professional infrastructure to hold this kind of events. In this same place, the Festival BUE 2017 will happen this 15 and 16 of December. Artists like Gorillaz, Major Lazer and Mark Ronson will be part of it.

The only disadvantage of the festival was the lines to buy food at night and the small variety of food. I wish they could improve it for the next year.

Artists

Pantha Du Prince

The German experimental techno producer, Hendrick Weber was one of the most important DJ´s of Sónar Buenos Aires. His dark ambient music innundated the space. He made us dance for moments and hypnotized us in others with his subtle rhythms and agreeable sounds. He played a lot of songs of "The Triad" his last new album, in which he blends voices and metallic tones delicately to put you in an emotional state.

Nosaj Thing

Nosaj Thing, offer a mysterious show full of abstract sounds, repetitive distorted voices, some hip-hop refrains and an original play of lights conformed by a flash and lasers that synchronized with the sounds. This DJ formed an obscure introspective space due to his ability to represent an attraction of the soul and the machine.

Sigur Rós

The Icelandic post-rock band, Sigur Rós, played for the first time in Argentina and presented "An Evening With Sigur Rós", where they reviewed his career and showed material from his eighth album, still in the recording stage. The show was legendary, the ethereal sound of their instruments combined with Jonsi's sensational falsetto voice and the amazing audiovisual show wrapped us and took us to a kind of emotional and intense dream.
